A short drive north from Surfers Paradise will land you right in the middle of theme parks with roller coasters, artificial wave pools and people dressed to look like movie stars. A short drive south, and you find yourself in part of the coast that time seems to have passed by – Burleigh Heads. We went south.
Our fortieth wedding anniversary has just dawned and Nanette has already posted something sweet and touching on Facebook. No worries, I can match that!

It’s 8:27 AM. We’re sitting on a bench outside our hotel, talking with a guy from California. He’s been complaining that his wife tends to wander off without telling him, right before they have to go somewhere. We’ve all booked the train-gondola combo trip to Kuranda, including free bus pickup at 8:35 sharp.
It feels weird to board a plane without our passports.
We have one of those significant anniversaries coming up this weekend and want to celebrate in style. “How about lunch at McDonalds?” Frosty smile. “Or maybe a trip to Bunnings to check out some new power tools?” Still no reply. “Er, how about a short trip somewhere nice?” Bingo!
Like all good sequels, this story picks up just before the point where my last story finished.

How often do you find your life directed by bells and whistles? Take yesterday afternoon. We’ve opted for a quick look at the cathedral before we start home from the Adelaide oval. An old hand woven banner catches my attention. “The St Peter’s Bell Ringer Association.”
There’s a tram from Glenelg to downtown Adelaide. It’s free – I’m told. After a leisurely breakfast our intrepid band of adventurers addresses the eternal question – what to do today.
