A brief escape to Tamborine Mountain

The longer we’re married, the better my wife No’s me.

Picture the scene.  We’re sitting on the couch on a cold Toowoomba night, deciding what we’ll do for our wedding anniversary.  A weekend away would be nice.

“How about …”  “Tamborine Mountain!”  (Yes, we’ve reached the stage where finishing each other’s sentences isn’t enough. Now, we finish thoughts.)

“Just what I was thinking”, say I.   “It says on this website we could stay in yurts in the middle of the rainforest and …”

No.”

“But,” I foolishly continue, “they say all meals are provided.  Something called lentil surprise. They say it’s flavoured by Mary Jo Arna.  Never heard of her, but I guess she must be a great cook, because they say …”

“NO.” – (pause for effect) – “We’ll stay at a nice B&B with hot showers, wi-fi, and no Mary Jo Arna.”

“Ok,” I continue, somehow missing the tone that says, like an emoji at the end of a text, that my input isn’t quite as helpful as I might believe, “well, while we’re there, maybe we could try ziplining.  It’s expensive, but you know it’s on our bucket list.  This site says you just have to climb a huge tree then …”

Nanette raises an eyebrow.  “Just where is it on Our bucket list?”  I quickly scroll through the catalogue I mentally rehearse in preparation for occasions just like this.  “Ah, it’s number 237.  Just above ‘swim naked in a pool full of Irukandji jelly fish’ …”

No – we are not climbing any trees just to fly a couple of hundred feet above a forest on a piece of string.  And you can cross the jellyfish one off too.  The poor creatures would die of fright!”

So, here we are.  It’s Friday night and we’re sitting on the couch in our snug little room at the B&B at Tamborine Mountain.  We arrived around lunchtime, so we’ve had plenty of time to – walk a rainforest trail – lunch beside a creek – say hello to the three massive St Bernard dogs that sprawl across the entrance of the aptly named St Bernard Hotel – and join the crowd to watch the sunset from the high spot on the escarpment where we saw those guys aloft on their para sails earlier this afternoon.

Maybe my brain is a little sluggish from the warm fire and the heavy load of carbs and, well, more carbs that I ate for dinner, but, I have what I believe is an inspiration! Hmm – para sailing.  I wonder if, maybe tomorrow, we could …

No!”
